Stone Island can never seem to stay out of the spotlight for long, and they’re back once again to announce the release of the Stone Island Prototype Research Series 06 which will be unveiled during Milan Design Week 2022.
If you’re not familiar with the Stone Island (SI) Prototype Research Series, we’re here to break it down for you.
The SI Prototype Research Series is a set of unique projects which produce limited edition apparel pieces (mostly outwear) which are constructed with particular fabrics and treatments resulting from very careful research and experimentation which is yet to reach an industrial scale.
Just below you can check out the very first Stone Island Prototype Research Series 01 which was released in November 2016.
You can see all of the uniquely different stages that were taken to produce the extremely detailed and limited edition reflective jacket from series 01.
Stone Island has teamed up with the consumer brand Kevlar® for series 06 and the development and research team of Kevlar® has been collaborating very closely with the research and experimentation department of SI.
Created by Stephanie Kwolek, the brand Kevlar® specialises in producing products using a heat-resistant synthetic fiber with a molecular structure of many inter-chain bonds that make Kevlar products incredibly strong.
Kevlar® sells a range of everyday goods such as motorcycle gear, DIY tools and electrical and non-electrical home gear – which are all made from strong reliable materials (the same the military use).
Kevlar® offers any brand to get in touch if they want their products to be even tougher. They claim to have proven themselves in the most extreme conditions and promises to make your gear tougher, stronger, and more reliable.
You can see below a shorter video of the most recent Stone Island Prototype Research Series 05 which was released in September 2021.
It’s unknown what exactly Stone Island and Kevlar® have in store for their collaboration, but we’re confident we’ll be seeing some vibrant outwear which will be made out of some of the strongest fabrics and materials you can incorporate into clothing.
All will be revealed during Milan Design Week 2022 on Tuesday June 7 – Sunday June 12 from 10:00am – 7:00pm.
