Palace Skateboards have garnered a global reputation for being one of fashion’s most prolific collaborators, so it’s easy to imagine the London imprint linking up with anyone at this point – even the confirmed Palace x McDonald’s collab isn’t too hard to believe.
Both Palace and McDonald’s have just recently teased an upcoming collab, with Palace sharing a video to Instagram of a billboard in New York’s Times Square, situated above a McDonald’s restaurant.
Keeping it simple but effective, the billboard depicts black text on a white background that says: “Basically if I do enough descriptions about McDonald’s I reckon I can expense burgers then my life’s complete.”
In true Palace fashion, the text was broken up into abrupt bullet points. Anyone’s who recently visits the Palace website and reads their item descriptions will have grown accustomed to reading text like this.
On the other hand, McDonald’s posted a short clip that basically showcases the fast food chain’s relevance in pop culture. Brief clips from the US version of The Office, Seinfeld, and even Marvel’s Loki can be seen all referencing McDonald’s in some way.
More importantly, the second slide revealed what is likely a release date, as the screen reads: “Opening 8.14.21” and “As featured in,” heavily suggesting that the pop culture references will play a part in the upcoming collab.
Apart from August 14, that’s all the duo have decided to give away for Palace x McDonald’s. No hints at what the collection with include, just a tease of two huge but very different companies linking up.
It’s worth knowing that this is the first Palace billboard to appear in New York, while the skateboarding and apparel brand has previously displayed bullet point billboards in London’s Piccadilly Circus for its Adidas collab.
McDonald’s isn’t known for its collaborative history, but thanks to recent partnerships with the likes of Travis Scott, Cardi B & Offset, and Cactus Plant Flea Market, perhaps the food chain is showing us that its embracing the modern trend of not shying away from collab after collab.
