Any issues of controversy didn’t seem to be a problem for most people as the first drop of the returning Yeezy trainers to Adidas CONFIRMED was a huge financial success for Adidas, Kanye West (Ye), and hopefully the charitable organisations that will receive a disclosed amount of the proceeds.
Following Adidas parting ways with Ye last October, Adidas were left with reportedly almost $1 billion USD worth of Yeezy stock, resulting in the announcement of three final Yeezy drops arriving at Adidas CONFIRMED this June.
The Yeezy Boost 350 V2 “Carbon Beluga” and “Onyx” were the first Yeezy trainers appearing on the Adidas CONFIRMED app via a raffle at the end of May. A total of 682,300 pairs of Yeezys were sold in drop one, generating a total of $170.5 million USD.
With Ye’s 15% royalty clause from his previous contract with Adidas still in motion, the rapper may have taken home roughly $25.5 million USD from the first release alone.
Many might feel conflicted about Ye’s financial gain, but remember that it was promised that a portion of the total profits would be donated to charities that combat racism, discrimination, and antisemitism. How much that’s going to be donated is still a mystery, but with two more releases due, hopefully it’s a considerable amount.
The Yeezy trainers set to release for the remaining drops at Adidas CONFIRMED will consist of drops originally scheduled for 2022. These rumoured silhouettes include (also seen above): the Yeezy 350 V2 CMPCT “Panda,” Yeezy 500 “Utility Black,” Yeezy Boost 380 “Covellite,” Yeezy Slide “Azure,” Yeezy 450 “Cinder,” and Yeezy 350 V2 “Zebra.”
This 15% that’s lining his pockets may be critical to Ye with The Gap reportedly preparing a $2 million lawsuit against Ye and three ex-Donda Academy teachers also preparing a joint lawsuit against the private school founded by Ye.
A third teacher has now joined the initial two who allegedly claim that Ye’s Donda Academy wasn’t safe for occupants or children, there was a lack of educational items you’d typically find in a classroom, committed labor code violations, and withheld wages.
The three individuals now demand a jury trial, but I can’t imagine Ye will have any legal fee issues.
