The Gap are reportedly after $2 million from Kanye West (Ye) in a new lawsuit that’s the result of their previously terminated Yeezy Gap partnership.
As reported by TMZ, The Gap’s decision to sue is in retaliation from the clothing and accessories label facing a lawsuit themselves.
Gap are being sued by the Art City Center, the company that owns the Los Angeles building Gap leased to use as retail storage for its Yeezy collaboration. The company claims Gap oversaw unapproved adjustments to the building while it was being used to hold its Yeezy products.
Art City Center are suing Gap for restoration fees and The Gap wants Ye to pay up $2 million if the fashion label incurs any damages from the Art City Center lawsuit – claiming their split was due to Ye’s hurtful actions.
We can all remember Ye’s harmful comments from last October that led to many companies cutting ties with the rapper, but only some might remember the month before when Ye accused Gap of some bold claims, such as overpricing his designs.
This relationship between Ye and Gap was already hanging by a thread, until Ye made his infamous anti-Semitic comments and Gap cut all ties with him.
A worldwide boycott of Ye followed after his actions, companies such as JPMorgan Chase & Co. Bank, Vogue, Balenciaga, Foot Locker, Sketchers, MRC, Gap, and of course Adidas, all cut ties with Ye.
With Adidas currently sitting on a mountain of leftover Yeezy inventory, some Yeezy trainers are beginning to be re-released, with the Yeezy Boost 350 V2 “Carbon Beluga” and “Onyx” being the first to be launched once again with raffles now live at the Adidas CONFIRMED app.
Due to a previous contractual obligation, it’s been reported that Ye will receive 15% of every Yeezy sale that Adidas make. Considering the latest lawsuit on his hands, he may need that percentage soon.
Whatever your thoughts are on the current Kanye West situation, this will likely be our last ever chance to get our hands on some Adidas Yeezy gear and that isn’t something to lightly consider.
