Puma is the third largest sportswear manufacturer in the world. Founded in 1948 by one of the Dassler brothers, Rudolf Dassler. The Dasslers are a pinnacle in the innovation of sporting footwear, after initially creating the Dassler Brothers Shoe Factory, which evolved into fellow sportswear manufacturer adidas. Puma first gained its recognition for it’s first football boot the Atom shoe. The Atom convinced athletes of the time of it’s many performance enhancing qualities, including the added grip created by studs on the sole. The Puma Super Atom launched in 1952, featuring screw in studs, which was known to innovate the world of football and marked the beginning of the brand’s football heritage. The Puma Brasil shoe were just as successful, which were won by the German Bundesliga team Hannover 96, the same year the team won the German League in May, all sporting the new shoe. In 1960, Puma were the first company to utilise the new vulcanisation technique in their shoes, which enabled athletes to gain greater support in their performances. The Clyde style was launched in 1973, which were designed for basketball player Walt ‘Clyde’ Frazier. Over the years, the company then gained recognition in a variety of sports, especially tennis where the brand was supported by the likes of Boris Becker and Serena Williams.
