Lyle And Scott was originally founded as a knitwear company in 1874, based in Hanwick, Scotland. The brand founders, William Lyle and Walter Scott, set their mission to create quality underwear clothing for Victorian Britain. As the brand became more successful, they branched out into the production of a variety of mens clothing including mens outerwear, mens jackets, mens jumpers and knitted sweatshirts, polo shirts and mens cardigans. In the 1960’s, the Lyle And Scott brand became popular within golfing. Sported by players such as Gary Player and Tony Jacklin, which solidified the relationship between the Eagle logo and the representation of the Eagle through the sport itself (in golfing terms, Eagle means being two shots under a par). Today, Lyle And Scott continue their golfing legacy, alongside their other two ranges known as Lyle And Scott Classic and Lyle And Scott Contemporary. The Lyle And Scott Classic collection embraces the best of traditional design, with a coherent brand image and timeless aesthetic. Lyle And Scott Contemporary is a label inspired by current trends and changing ideas within the fashion industry, following into more mainstream, popular fashion.
