The Champion brand was initially founded in 1919 as ‘Knickerbocker Knitting Company’ by the Feinbloom brothers. The vision for the company was to create quality sportswear which prioritises comfort and innovation. Originally, the ‘Knickerbocker Knitting Company’ was based in Rochester, NYC. The brand soon agreed to create uniform for the Wentworth Mlitary Academy after creating their first line of sweaters and sportswear in the mid 1920’s. In the 1930’s, the name of the company was changed to ‘Champion Knitting Mills’, when it also became known for making it’s signature sweatshirts. During 1934, when Champion partnered with Moe’s Sports Shop to create collegiate sportswear for the University Of Michigan, the brand also birthed the first ever hooded sweatshirt in the process of design and production. The hooded sweatshirt, or hoodie as we now know it, is one of the most popular pieces of clothing worn today. The signature ‘C’ logo was developed in 1956. The logo patch was stitched onto the left sleeve of every sweatshirt manufactured by the brand and has become an iconic logo across the sportswear industry. Champion still continue their legacy in creating functional sportswear, stocked at a variety of our trusted retailers.
