Sacai is a Japanese label, founded in 1999 by Chitose Abe and has established itself as a cult fashion hero in recent years. Since its first runway show in 2011 the brand has flourished, thanks in part to the backing of Commes des Garcons founder, Rei Kawakubo. And the label has come a very long way since its beginning when it was founded as a knitwear brand.
Following several previous sneaker collaborations between Nike and Sacai (the first of which came in 2015), the two international brands have come together again. But this time, it’s not trainers they’re offering but apparel, in the form of a three-piece collection featuring a long and short sleeved tee and a hoodie.
Sticking with a simple and minimalistic colourway, the unisex t-shirts are available in black and the hoodie comes in an all-black and grey/white colourway. The long-sleeved shirt and hoodie are emblazoned with the Nike ‘you can’t stop us’ slogan on the front whereas it appears on the back of the t shirt. A brand renowned for their hybrid, mismatched silhouettes, this collaboration is no different. The hoodie is merged with elements of an anorak creating a garment that is not only contrasting in aesthetic but in material and texture.
Nike aren’t the first brand to partner with Sacai; Moncler and The North Face have also previously collaborated with the Japanese label as well as budding cult labels like Ambush.
In a sentence, Sacai clothing can be defined as high-end pieces that are instantly recognisable for the way in which they push the boundaries of avant-garde fashion and functionality. Available from the Sacai online store, the three-piece collection became available for international shipping on July 10th. With both of the shirt designs having already sold out, those looking to get their hands on a hoodie shouldn’t wait around! Available in unisex sizes S-L, the white/grey and all black hoodies are currently on pre-order until 19th July 2020 with shipping estimated to be at the end of August, so you’ll have your hoodie in time for entering the autumn.
