“Opening new doors for the Black community has always been, and will always be, the focus of my career.” Said Virgil Abloh who touched the culture in many ways and continues to leave a positive legacy within fashion, design, music, architecture, and now the community.

The Off-White founder, Virgil Abloh would often reach out with black creatives to collaborate with. His “Post-Modern” Scholarship Fund is a reinforcement of this practice.

His “Post-Modern” Scholarship Fund was launched in July 2020 at the height of the Black Lives Matter movement.

It is for students of Black, African-American, or African descent who will receive proper funding and get the opportunity to make connections with industry mentors.

According to a Cision press release, the scholarship was introduced to “foster equity and inclusion within the fashion industry by providing scholarships to students of academic promise of Black, African-American, or African descent, supporting the next generation of Black fashion industry leaders.”

The “Post-Modern” scholarship is funded through donations and it has racked up over one million US dollars so far.

When announcing the fund, Abloh said “I’ve always been passionate about giving the next generation of students the same foundation for success that was given to me.”

Partners of Virgil Abloh who support the scholarship include Farfetch, Louis Vuitton, Evian, New Guards Group, and Nike with more expected to follow.

To qualify for the scholarship, students must be enrolled at an FSF (Fashion Scholarship Fund) school as a full-time junior student. They must also maintain a GPA of at least 3.0 and show an interest in pursuing a career into fashion.

Applications for the “Post-Modern” Scholarship will open in April 2022 through the FCF’s case study competition. Applications must be submitted by mid-October 2022.

With an ever growing fund of $1 million, the “Post Modern” scholarship continues to serve as a platform and support for the next generation of Black leaders within fashion.
