It’s not been a bad few weeks for Son Heung-Min….

First Son won his first Premier League Golden Boot Award for scoring 23 league goals (joint with Mo Salah), then he announced the launch of his own fashion label ‘NOS7’ and now Son Heung-Min has been announced as Burberry‘s new brand ambassador.

For many modern-day footballers, just being popular on the pitch sometimes isn’t enough. Because of the huge reach that football has, many of the best footballers in todays game gain millions of devoted fans.

Many popular brands want to also benefit from this and they create partnerships with the players to promote themselves even more. This is one of the reasons a handful of football stars in todays game rake in lucrative sponsorship deals with widely recognised brands.

The Tottenham Hotspur forward who played a crucial role in helping his team achieve Champions League football for next season, has become the latest player to bag a sponsorship deal, this time with the UK-based fashion brand Burberry.

Over time, Son has gained millions of fans in South Korea and he’s developed into a bonafide icon in his country, naturally meaning more brands want to work with him.

Burberry announced Son as the new brand ambassador via twitter on June 13, the UK-based fashion brand said: “We are proud to welcome Son, South Korean football star and winner of the Premier League Golden Boot award, as our new brand ambassador.”

Burberry also took to Instagram to make the announcement, and revealed several photos of Son donning some Burberry apparel and a behind-the-scenes video of his photoshoot with Burberry.

In the BTS video, Son can be seen trying on a selection of sweatshirts, T-shirts, a very smart brown coat, while of course he’s also juggling a few footballs during the shoot.

Son has become the first footballer from his country to secure himself such a massive deal as a global ambassador for the UK-based Burberry.

Son said on his Instagram: “Being an athlete from the Premier League, it’s my honour to partner with a brand so rich in British heritage. I love Burberry’s strive for imagination and innovation which has been deeply inherited in its history, which are values I champion.”

As of yet, no one knows how much money Son is making from the deal, but considering Jack Grealish from Man City signed a $1.7m-a-year deal with Gucci earlier this year, Son must also be raking in a lucrative amount.

We’re not sure what type of campaigns or projects Burberry has in mind for Son, all we know is as brand ambassador of Burberry, Son will be representing the brand on a very wide scale.
