The Nike’s Air Force 1 has become an enduring cultural milestone with a strong continued relevance in fashion, music, sports, and art. This month, Louis Vuitton will be releasing its highly anticipated, Virgil Abloh-designed Nike Air Force 1 to the public.

In the build up to this drop, all 47 editions of Abloh’s AF1 were displayed in an exhibition at New York City’s Greenpoint Terminal Warehouse in late may. Featuring a recreation of Abloh’s studio, the exhibition was a way to pay homage to Abloh’s legacy and to educate viewers on his work.

Expanding on the exhibition, Louis Vuitton also erected multiple pop-up installations throughout New York City.

In early June, pre-orders for the Virgil Abloh AF1 opened to selected Louis Vuitton clients – we know this by a series of unboxing videos that began circulating online.

Finally becoming more accessible to the public, on 19 July, nine editions of the AF1 will release at Louis Vuitton stores and on the Louis Vuitton website – priced between £1,500 – £3,000.

First revealed at Louis Vuitton’s Spring/Summer 2022 menswear show, the collection of trainers are embossed with Louis Vuitton’s monogram, outfitted in Damier checked leather, emblazoned with “AIR” across the midsole and feature customised Louis Vuitton monogrammed Swooshes.

While many of us may not necessarily be in the market for £3,000 collectable Air Forces, but there’s no denying the drop is going to create an echo throughout the streetwear and the general fashion industry who are still mourning the unexpected passing of Abloh.

Regardless, after months of only being able to view these exclusive trainers either in a museum, being unboxed by Louis Vuitton clients or being resold for tens of thousands – it’ll be a pleasant sight to finally see some of the people getting their hands on some of these collectables.
