Heron Preston takes BAPE back to the 90s with a new collaboration which is rich in streetwear history and details that many wouldn’t of noticed, but BAPE heads will appreciate.
Back in April, on Instagram, Heron Preston explained his new approach to collaborations:
“What I’m reading is that you guys are over the ‘cash-grab’ corporate collabs’ and calling them ‘boring nonsense,'” Preston continues “It seems you guys are starting to see straight through the crap! Have we hit a tipping point with pointless collabs?”
Heron Preston took BAPE back to its roots and dug into BAPE’s archives to remix a few classics with his own designs.
The results come in the form of a classic Shark Hoodie, an Ape Head T-shirt, and BAPESTA trainers – all altered with oversized graphic prints and unconventional colouring.
Something like the full-zip Shark Hoodie is one of the classics from Bape, and Preston does it justice with adding matching sweatpants, complete with plenty of throwback star prints and a Shark design on the hood just like the old days.
