Kanye West has finally allowed his very public feuds with Adidas and GAP come to the one logical conclusion: he’s confirmed he will be parting ways with both companies once their respective YEEZY contracts have ended.
The YEEZY founder announced this decision during an interview with Bloomberg on Monday 12 September.
Earlier this month, Ye called out Adidas for allegedly imitating the design of the YEEZY Slide for the Adilette 22 Slides, for holding YEEZY DAY 2022 without his consent and his feelings towards GAP were also quite hostile as he felt they were holding exclusive meetings about him.
If you haven’t been in the loop about Kanye’s beef with Adidas and GAP you can find a simple explanation right here, but to put it bluntly:
Ye claims that he’s become aware of some transgression, bombards his Instagram page with accusations and then deletes almost everything while his apparent foes remain silent.
During his interview with Bloomberg, Kanye explained: “I made the companies money. The companies made me Money.”
Ye continues: “We created ideas that will change apparel forever, like the Round Jacket, the Foam Runner, the slides that have changed the shoe industry. Now its time for Ye to make the new industry. No more companies standing in between me and the audience.”
It’s no real surprise that Ye wants to go solo. During his public feuds with Adidas and GAP earlier this month, the first official YEEZY Instagram account appeared with a blue tick and no references to corporate partners Adidas or GAP.
Ye has also already announced that YEEZY would soon open its very first standalone store in Atlanta named “YZY SPLY.”
Considering Kanye’s immense ego and loyal following, it’s not a surprise that he’d eventually wish to go independent.
During this whole beef, it’s unknown how long Kanye has planned to leave Adidas and GAP, but by controlling the narrative on his Instagram page, he’s done himself a favour by almost being in charge of the news and amplifying the volume of the news around the world.
I have no doubt that Ye’s success will only continue and thrive during the next solo stage of his YEEZY career.
