As reported by the Wall Street Journal on Tuesday, February 14, Pharrell Williams is currently “in talks” with the luxury label Louis Vuitton to take over the late Virgil Abloh’s role as overseer of menswear.
The exact role that Pharrell would take on at Louis Vuitton is unclear. Abloh was the French-founded label’s “artistic director” of menswear and Pharrell would likely take on the same of similar title.
Pharrell Williams would be Louis Vuitton‘s first permanent head of menswear since Abloh’s untimely passing in late 2021.
Louis Vuitton spent the entirety of 2022 without a permanent creative or artistic director for menswear. The label instead released a series of tributes to Abloh and collections designed by the remaining menswear design team.
Pharrell is a longtime supporter and friend of Abloh and has also experienced his share of being the head of a fashion brand.
Pharrell’s currently overseeing his own Billionaire Boy’s Club and ICE CREAM labels, plus his frequent work collaborating with Adidas under his co-owner streetwear brand, Human Made.
He’s dabbled with not only streetwear labels, but the luxury ones also. Pharrell became the first male fashion ambassador of Chanel, who he’s also previously designed his own collection with.
It’s also been reported that Pharrell is working on a collaboration with Tiffany & Co., who are owned by the Louis Vuitton parent company – LVMH.
Pharrell may have not been an obvious choice but he’s definitely someone who’s capable and experienced enough.
