It’s common knowledge that Skepta is one of the biggest British grime artists on the whole scene. Clearly music is in his blood, with his brother Jamie Adengua, otherwise known as JME, also high in the rankings within the grime genre.
Meridian Crew was where Skepta’s musical career kicked off, teaming up with the likes of his brother and other friends to create tracks including Meridian Walk and Eskimo. Once the group broke up, Skepta and JME remained musical partners and created the record label and grime collective Boy Better Know. Boy Better Know, which was nicknamed BBK, was established around 2008 by JME, Skepta and Wiley. As the BBK name grew, it saw artists including Frisco, Shorty and Jammer get involved with the label.
Now, Skepta is best known as a solo artist, with hit records such as Shutdown, Too Many Man and Top Boy securely under his belt. The artist is not only well known in the music industry, but fashion too. Skepta’s personal dress sense is one which is admired by many. With labels such as Louis Vuitton, Ambush, Burberry, Moncler and Chanel sitting in his wardrobe, the 39 year old has been recognized by some of the biggest menswear publications within the industry for his undeniable style; and he doesn’t just wear it well, he can design it well too… Landing a huge number of his own Nike collaborations, including the sell-out Nike Air Max 97 Sk, Nike Air Max Deluxe, Nike Shox TL and his latest Nike Air Max Tailwind 5, Skepta’s unique collaborations are some of the most sought after within the current market.
Now, Skepta is branching out even further, into the world of fragrance. Recently, it was announced that the Grime MC turned fashion icon will be releasing a new fragrance with Italian label, Diesel. As part of the brands’ Sound Of The Brave campaign, Diesel have appointed Skepta to be the face of their latest fragrance ‘Only The Brave’. The collaborative fragrance has a unique scent of bison grass accords, mixed with a lavandin essence blending a note of spicy juniper. The final notes of the fragrance feature a citrusy lemon essence blended with warm amber woods.
As part of the advertising campaign, Diesel have released a video ad featuring Skepta himself. The short film takes you through the influences and creative process that Skepta uses to create his songs.
