British luxury label Mulberry have partnered with Swedish-founded Axel Arigato who are known for their contemporary, retro-inspired silhouettes for a new limited-edition capsule collection that’s inspired by “memorable pop culture moments from the past 50 years.”
Speaking on the collab, Albin Johanson, co-founder of Axel Arigato explained: “Although founded in Sweden, since its inception Axel Arigato has been particularly welcomed by the UK, and so to launch a collaboration with Mulberry, a brand firmly embedded in British fashion history, feels like a naturally intuitive partnership to roll out.”
Axel Arigato‘s sleek Area trainers have been reworked with Mulberry‘s iconic Postman’s lock and custom strap in three colourways of White/Blue, White/Green, plus White/Brown.
Inspired by vintage basketball styles, the new Area trainers have been crafted from leather and a recycled polyester that’s been produced using reclaimed PET bottles.
Alongside the Mulberry-updated Area trainers, there’s also some ready-to-wear garments such as varsity jackets, split-colour trenches, relaxed-fit denim, graphical T-shirts and hoodies – all heavily inspired by the contemporary Scandinavian style of Axel Arigato.
The rest of the forward-thinking collection includes a variety of bags inspired by three archive Mulberry designs: Oversized Bayswater, Maddison, and the Westbourne Shoulder Bag.
While the Area trainers are the standout, the 35-piece collection that’s targeted at a young audience is finished off with a selection of keyrings, belts, a cap, and jewellery.
The rare Axel Arigato x Mulberry collaboration launches from the Mulberry and Axel Arigato stores and webstore worldwide on Monday, April 17 with prices ranging from £45 – £1,950.
