Morecambe F.C. has been up for sale since September and despite interest from boxing champion Tyson Fury, the club has confirmed they’re in the process of being taken over by 20-year-old entrepreneur Sarbjot Johal – making him the youngest club owner in English football.
Johal is a businessman and through his private investment firm Sarb Capital, he was close to completing a buyout of the League One club in January.
The process of the purchase of Morecambe hasn’t been quick but club chairman Graham Howse, has now confirmed the deal will be confirmed when and if it passed the EFL’s owners and directors test.
Chairman Howse also revealed that Johal has also already purchased equity in the club.
Heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury, revealed at the end of 2022 that he was considering purchasing the club. Fury lives in the town of Morecambe, Lancashire and is already an investor of the club as his Gypsy King logo can be seen on the team’s match-day kit.
Despite the long process, if Johal’s deal gets an EFL approval then he’ll officially become the youngest club owner in English professional football.
Howse told the club’s official website: “It is fair to say the sale process hasn’t progressed as quickly as we all would have liked. My understanding is that exciting times are ahead both on and off the pitch.
“Sarbjot, through his company Sarb Capital, has recently purchased equity in the Club, injecting more than useful income into us.”
Morecambe F.C. currently sit in position 21, only 6 points clear of the bottom position in League One – the third tier division in English football.
