Inside the World of Stone Island Collectors: MEET CP SIMMO

When it comes to rare and collectible fashion, few brands command the respect and admiration that Stone Island does. Known for its experimental fabrics, innovative designs, and iconic compass badge, Stone Island has cultivated a loyal following of enthusiasts who treasure the brand’s heritage. Recently, I had the privilege of stepping into this world, guided by a passionate collector named Simmo and a Burnley-based restoration expert, Tom, owner of TTS Services who hosted the collection meet up point. What followed was an eye-opening journey into the art of collecting and witnessing some of the most preserved Stone Island jackets i’ve personally come across.

The Meeting Point: TTS Services

Our day began at TTS Services, a shop specialising in the cleaning and restoration of luxury and vintage items, including trainers, designer shoes, and accessories. Tom, the mastermind behind the operation, greeted us with enthusiasm. “There’s been a real surge in interest for pre-owned restoration for footwear in particular,” he explained. “People are realising the value in restoring and maintaining these pieces rather than buying new.”

Tom’s work goes beyond simple cleaning; it’s about breathing new life into footwear both sports and designer, prams, golf bags and suede materials, whilst taking pride in their work his team ensures every piece is treated with the utmost care. The shop’s walls, adorned with vintage trainers and jackets, set the perfect stage for what was to come. In addition tucked in the back is there very own in-store barber which can keep your crop looking trim whilst you hunt for bargains or restore your favourite kicks.

A Collector’s Treasure Trove

Simo, a dedicated Stone Island collector, soon joined us, bringing with him an incredible collection of around 40 jackets. Each piece told its own story, showcasing the brand’s evolution over the decades. From the pure metal shell jackets to waxed ice jackets and green-edge badges, the variety was astonishing.

“This one’s a personal favourite,” Simo said, holding up a jacket with a mesh badge. “The craftsmanship is unmatched, and the details—like the detachable liners and unique buttons—make it a standout.”

He went on to explain how he’d acquired his collection through advertisements, auctions, and networking with other collectors. “It’s not just about owning the jacket; it’s about the journey of finding it and the connections you make along the way.”

The Appeal of Stone Island

What makes Stone Island so special? According to Simo and Tom, it’s the brand’s commitment to innovation and experimentation. Over the years, Stone Island has pioneered techniques like garment dyeing and the use of reflective and thermosensitive fabrics. These innovations not only push the boundaries of fashion but also ensure each piece is truly one-of-a-kind.

The Growing Market for Vintage Fashion

The financial value of Stone Island pieces has skyrocketed in recent years. Jackets that once retailed for a few hundred pounds now fetch several hundreds on the resale market. This surge in demand has made pre-owned luxury fashion a viable alternative for those who appreciate quality but may not want to pay full retail prices.

“It’s an investment,” Simo said. “But it’s also a passion. The value isn’t just in the price tag; it’s in the history and craftsmanship.”

A Community of Enthusiasts

Beyond the jackets themselves, the Stone Island community is a tight-knit group of enthusiasts who share a deep appreciation for the brand. Collectors often connect through social media, forums, and events, exchanging tips, stories, and even rare finds.

“The community aspect is huge,” Simo said. “It’s not just about the clothes; it’s about the people you meet and the shared passion for something unique.”

Closing Thoughts

Hoxton’s day in Burnley was more than just a look at rare jackets; it was an exploration of a culture that values history, craftsmanship, and community. Whether you’re a seasoned collector or new to the world of Stone Island, there’s something undeniably captivating about these garments and the stories they carry.

As the demand for vintage and restored luxury fashion continues to grow, so too does the appreciation for the artisans and collectors who keep this culture alive. And if you ever find yourself in Burnley, a visit to TTS Services might just inspire you to start your own collection.
