American designer, Heron Preston, is best known for his eponymous menswear brand ‘Heron Preston’ which he founded back in 2017. The brand is recognised for its unusual military inspired collections, functional design aesthetic and unique printed designs. Alongside his very own label, Preston is known for his high-profile collaborative work, which includes the likes of Virgil Abloh and Kanye West, alongside leading brands such as Nike, Selfridges, Mr Porter and Levi’s.

However, his limits don’t just stop at fashion design; Preston is well known in the industry of art and contemporary culture, as well as the music industry for his DJ work. Preston’s DJ career involves a variety of music genres, however he is mostly known for his hip-hop DJ sets.

Recently, Heron Preston was appointed to the role of ‘Creative Consultant’ at leading designer label, Calvin Klein. Klein is a classic brand, catering for both men and women, renowned for their revolutionary work in the industry. Calvin Klein has previously worked with celebrities including the Kardashians and ASAP Rocky.

Setting high expectations for the brand, Preston has delivered a great interpretation of his own style merged into the classic personality of the CK brand, with his first collection, simply titled ‘Heron Preston For Calvin Klein’. Including the classic Calvin Klein pieces, such as jeans, t-shirts, jackets, hoodies and vests, each garment has been given a touch of Heron Preston within its design. ‘Heron Preston For Calvin Klein’ also includes a variety of accessories to complete an outfit, including ribbed socks, weekend bags, tote bags and underwear sets. The collection is emblazoned with subtle orange/tonal stripes for branding (alongside the classic CK logo), functional shapes and cuts, with a mix details including high rise trousers, buttoned fastenings, subtle orange stitching and carpenter pockets. Overall, the palette looks very relaxed and neutral – this collection gives some great options if you want to buy more versatile pieces, you could style each piece in a variety of ways with different colours to suit your preference.

During the process of designing the new collection, Preston told WWD that he wanted to revisit the heritage and history of the Calvin Klein brand, allowing him to understand the DNA of the brand and it’s consumers. “I wanted to create a collection for real people. I saw this collection speaking to not only my specific friend group but the rest of the globe,” he said. The new line is completely gender neutral, so you can buy whichever piece tickles your fancy and make it work for you. There’s a great range of materials used within the collection to add depth and texture – including classic blue denim and organic cotton. The materials used within this collection are all sustainably sourced, so you can shop completely guilt free.

Of course, alongside every great collection is a great campaign. This time, Preston has pulled artists including rappers Lil Uzi Vert and Nas for the shoot. The musicians stand alongside stars of the fashion industry including model Ashley Graham. A relaxed retro aesthetic builds the shoot, focusing on 70’s looking tones of orange, cream, tan brown and navy blue, which work with the whole palette of the collection.

The newly launched collection can be found at Selfridges, you can take a look by clicking here. Prices range between £24 to £300, providing availability for all budgets.
