Despite a three-way bidding war with Puma and Adidas, Erling Haaland is reportedly close to agreeing a new deal with Nike but is still waiting for a lucrative offer in the region of £20 million a year to stay with the sportswear giants.
Erling Haaland has been making headlines after headlines since he signed for Manchester City in the summer and the Norwegian’s exceeded all expectations by netting 27 Premier League goals in his first 24 appearances.
As the superstar looks to keep his form going, the strikers reportedly made it clear that he wishes to stay with Nike as his official boot sponsors.
The 22-year-old’s most recent deal with Nike expired in January 2022 and its expiration attracted both Adidas and Puma to join the race to sign him.
Both Adidas and Puma have submitted lucrative offers to secure Haaland’s signature, despite his desire to re-sign with Nike.
It was reported by the Athletic, that Haaland’s team expect an offer of around £20 million per year in order to renew his contract with Nike.
Haaland still maintains a healthy relationship with the other two sportswear brands as Puma are City’s current kit manufacturers and will be until at least 2029, and Adidas‘ chief executive Bjorn Gulden, remains a close friend with Haaland and his family.
Despite Haaland’s deal with Nike ending last year, the superstar has regularly appeared wearing Nike boots in matches – such as last Saturday’s 4-1 win over Bournemouth when Haaland broke City’s single-season goalscoring record in the Premier League.
It’s no surprise that Haaland’s team believes he deserves a lucrative deal as the forward has now scored 33 goals in just 33 appearances as he continues his excellent form under Pep Guardiola.
