Not even a full year after its release and Central Cee’s “Doja” is now officially the most-streamed UK rap song in Spotify history!
Produced by Mancunian hit-makers LiTek & WhyJay, plus the music video is directed by the legendary Cole Bennett – “Doja” released on July 21 2022 and has now amassed over 470 million streams on Spotify alone.
This isn’t the only new record Cench has smashed this week. Reports tell us that his recent collab with Dave, “Sprinter,” has surpassed Stormzy’s “Vossi Bop” (13.4 million streams) as the all-time UK rap song with the most streams in a single week.
The records continue to be broken as on top of this, “Sprinter” is also now the longest-running No.1 track for any UK rap single (5 weeks and counting).
Having only been in the spotlight about a year, Central Cee has typically preferred a lifestyle away from the interviews and social media. It wasn’t until recently when a lot of people began ditching Twitter to jump on the new ‘Threads’ hype, Cench done the opposite and deleted his Instagram account and activated his Twitter.
As for the interviews, it seems Cench doesn’t allow an insight into his life to just any interviewer. He did however unpack a lot regarding his career and influences with XXL, having made their famous Freshman Class of 2023.
As many would of expected, Central Cee named his biggest influences as a couple of the OG’s of grime: “People who influenced me 10, 12 years ago when I first started recording music… Skepta, I’ll always pay a big thing to, JME, the whole grime scene – which is no longer really like a thing anymore, but that was what made me wanna rap.”
A brief Central Cee interview that’s definitely worth a watch, even if you’re only a little bit of a Cench fan, is his hilarious interview with Amelia Dimoldenberg on Chicken Shop Date (seen above).
