Burberry Strengthens Senior Leadership Team with Key Appointments

Luxury British heritage brand Burberry has announced two significant additions to its senior leadership team, appointing Jonathan Kiman as Chief Marketing Officer and Laura Dubin-Wander as President of the Americas.

Jonathan Kiman, who will officially begin his role on 9 September, joins Burberry from Gucci, where he most recently served as Chief Marketing Officer. With extensive experience in global marketing strategies and brand revitalisation, Kiman is set to lead Burberry’s global marketing team, bringing his expertise in digital marketing and brand development to the fore.

Laura Dubin-Wander will assume her role as President of the Americas starting 4 September. She brings an impressive track record, having previously held senior positions such as President of Coach North America, Vice President of Christian Dior Couture, and President of Givenchy. Most recently, she served as CEO of OTB North America, a luxury fashion group that includes brands like Jil Sander, Marni, and Viktor&Rolf. In her new role, Dubin-Wander will oversee Burberry’s operations across the Americas, focusing on expanding the brand’s presence and market share in the region.

Joshua Schulman, CEO of Burberry, expressed his enthusiasm for the new appointments, stating, “I am thrilled to welcome Jonathan and Laura to Burberry. Jonathan’s extensive experience in rejuvenating brands and building digitally-focused marketing teams will be invaluable as we continue to enhance our marketing capabilities and strengthen the Burberry brand. Laura is a dynamic leader with a proven track record of building and developing successful teams. I look forward to working closely with her to drive our growth in the Americas.”

This strategic strengthening of Burberry’s senior team underscores the brand’s commitment to enhancing its global presence and accelerating growth in key markets after a weaker performance in the later half of 2023 and first half of 2024.

Christopher Bailey’s Legacy: The Creative Visionary Who Transformed Burberry

Christopher Bailey took over as Burberry’s Chief Creative Officer in 2004, marking a significant era for the British luxury brand. Bailey, who joined Burberry in 2001 as Design Director, was instrumental in modernising the brand and transforming it into a global fashion powerhouse.

Under his leadership, Burberry embraced digital innovation, becoming one of the first luxury brands to live-stream its runway shows and leverage social media for marketing. Bailey’s creative direction also revitalised Burberry’s iconic trench coat and check pattern, re-establishing them as symbols of modern British style.

In 2014, Bailey expanded his role to become both Chief Creative Officer and CEO, a rare dual position in the fashion industry. His tenure was marked by a focus on digital integration, sustainability, and maintaining Burberry’s heritage while pushing the brand towards contemporary relevance. Bailey stepped down as CEO in 2017 and fully left the company in 2018, after a 17-year tenure that solidified Burberry’s place at the forefront of the luxury fashion industry.
