F.C. Barcelona have dug deep into their archives for their latest release, a call back to the days of Dutch legend Johan Cryuff, in an all-white hue that some fans have labelled as controversial.
Barcelona in a white kit may sound strange at first, but La Blaugrana wore white often during their success in the ’70s with their superstar Cruyff leading the charge.
Even the club crest has been subtly swapped out for the older one used from 1972-2002 – giving the kit a real feeling of its past.
Aside from also being reminiscent of the kit used by the first women’s team to play at the Camp Nou, many online have reacted poorly to the new white kit as its either too plain or others could not avoid association of the hue with their bitter La Liga rival Real Madrid, who traditionally always wear white.
Barcelona president, Joan Laporta, came to the shirts defence: “It’s not all white. It has some blue and red detail on the sleeve and it’s in memory of one of the first shirts Cruyff wore at the club.”
He added: “We believe that a colour should not be the heritage of anyone. In any case, it is a ‘Barca White’ colour.”
Xavi’s side debuted their new away kit during their 5-3 defeat by Arsenal on Wednesday night, but what are your thoughts on Barca’s new hue? You can find it available from Nike below.
