Fashion movies or just generally stylish and fashionable movies are a treat for anyone to watch, especially us fashion enthusiasts. 

A movie doesn’t necessarily have to be about fashion, to be able to appreciate the fashion aspect of it – as long as they include some memorable styling and looks. 

They come in a variety of genres – comedies, dramas, action & adventure, romance, and biopic movies.

Below is a list of 10 incredible movies that anyone who’s into their fashion and enjoys the cinema should definitely watch. 

  1. House Of Gucci (2021)

Ridley Scott’s “House of Gucci” is based on the book “The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed” by Sara Gay Forden.

It tells the story of Patrizia Reggiani (Lady Gaga), an ambitious woman from humble beginnings who marries into the Gucci family. Her actions start to unravel the fashion empire’s scandalous history which is full of backstabbing, betrayal, greed, and murder.

With the drama aside, this is a film about one off fashion’s most prominent dynasties. From impeccably tailored suits and embellished gowns, House of Gucci is full of looks that are every bit as over the top as the Gucci family’s antics.

       2. Last Night In Soho (2021)

This psychological thriller by Edgar Wright is an exciting must see film for fashion enthusiasts. It has the perfect balance of dazzling dresses, sleek suits, flashing night lights and dark and disturbing scenes to add that horror element to the fashion.

The story begins with an aspiring fashion designer, Eloise, who is mysteriously able to enter the 1960s. Here she encounters a glamourous wannabe singer, Sandie. 

With all the fancy clothes and expensive champagne aside, everything is not how it appears to be. The dreams of the past start to crack and splinter into something much darker. 

       3. Black Panther (2018)

Directed by Ryan Coogler, Marvel’s Black Panther was one of the most anticipated films of 2018 – not just for its adaption of the comic, but also for its fashion.

Black Panther’s costume designer, Ruth Carter, took inspiration from traditional and contemporary African fashion when designing the costumes and outfits for the people of the fictional African country – Wakanda. 

Black Panther sticks to being an action packed blockbuster hit, but it’s also got no shortage of authentic and vibrant African designs to please all fashion enthusiasts. 

       4. The Gospel According to André (2017)

The film takes viewers on a journey of André Leon Talley – an American fashion journalist, stylist, creative director, and editor-at-large of Vogue. Viewers watch André begin at his roots growing up, to becoming one of the most influential fashion curators of our times.

André’s life is on full display here, starting from the segregated American South to the fashion capitals of the world. 

With appearances from Anna Wintour, Marc Jacobs, Tom Ford, Bethan Hardison, Valentino, and Manolo Blahnik – this accurate adaption of one of the best stories about a singular person in the fashion world isn’t one to miss. 

       5. Fresh Dressed (2015)

Directed by Sacha Jenkins, Fresh Dressed has an impressive star stubbed cast list which includes Damon Dash, Nas, and Pharrell Williams.

It follows the history of Hip-Hop, urban fashion and its rise from southern cotton plantations to the gangs of the 1970s in the South Bronx, to corporate America, and then everything in between. 

Fresh Dressed tries to go to the very core of where style was born – doing this by being supported by rich archival materials and detailed interviews with individuals crucial to the evolution of fashion and streetwear. 

       6. Saint Laurent (2014)

Like ‘The Gospel According to André’, Bertrand Bonello’s Saint Laurent follows a true story with fashion constantly at the center of it. 

The film follows Yves Saint Laurent’s life from 1967 – 1976, during a time when the notorious fashion designer was at the peak of his career. 

Born in Algeria, Yves Laurent moves to France and masters his own creativity to become an icon of the fashion indsutry.

       7. The Great Gatsby (2013)

An adaptions of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s Long Island-set novel, The Great Gatsby tells the story of a writer, Nick, who’s lured into the lavish world of his millionaire neighbour, Jay Gatsby.

After seeing Jay Gatsby’s rich and luxurious life where you couldn’t ask for much more, you start to see through the cracks where obsession, madness, and tragedy are all too familiar.

This story which is directed by Baz Luhrman, is told through the use of extravagant parties and glamourous clothes that indicate money can buy anything, other than peace of mind. 

      8. Casino Royale (2006)

Directed by Martin Campbell, Daniel Craig’s first bond film is definitely one for the people who have a soft spot for fashion and the finer things in life. Casino Royale has no shortage of flashy suits, shiny jewelry, expensive cars and not to mention that over half an hour of the film we get to see Bond take part in one of the classiest and intense poker games ever.

Bond finds himself in this high-stakes game of poker in Montenegro as his first mission as 007 is to play and beat a private banker who’s funding terrorists. 

       9. The Devil Wears Prada (2006)

Completely fictional and full of comedic brilliance, The Devil Wears Prada showcases a wide variety of designer and high end clothing while also consistently making its audience laugh. 

Directed by David Frankel and set In New York City, it follows the story of Andrea Sachs, a journalism graduate who’s hired to work as the second assistant of the powerful Miranda Priestly, the ruthless executive of the Runway fashion magazine.

       10. Zoolander (2001)

Another fashion comedy destined to have anyone laughing out loud to themselves. Directed by and stared in – Ben Stiller’s Zoolander is a comedic masterpiece which is centered around modelling and runway fashion. 

Derek Zoolander, a three time male model of the year, loses out on making himself a 4 time winner and he loses all confidence in himself. He thinks his life is turning back around when fashion guru Mugatu hires Zoolander, but he’s really being brainwashed to kill the Prime Minister of Malaysia.
