Originally, the Prada A + P Luna Rossa shoe was designed with sporting in mind – specialising in sailing, this innovative piece of footwear kept comfort, grip and practicality at its forefront, whilst of course looking effortlessly sleek and stylish – what more could you expect from Prada? This time, the Luna Rossa shoe is back, not just for sporting purposes, but style and leisure too.
The adidas x Prada Luna Rossa design is inspired by the iconic heritage of each brand, whilst incorporating the looks of the AC75 Luna Rossa boat itself. Prada is known in the luxury fashion industry for its sportier aesthetics and design styles, making a perfect match between the label and one of the world’s leading sportswear brands.
Last year, we saw the two brands working on various projects together, including redesigns of the adidas Superstar. The Prada x adidas Superstar saw a unique metallic colourway, with the classic rubberized sole and subtle black branding, not to mention the iconic three stripes in a subtle white shade. It was a real stand-out pair, perfect for any collector. Second in line was the stealthy all-black colourway, which was a really cool looking option for anyone who wanted a more toned-down version of the sneaker. Prior to this, the brands also collaborated to create a line of luxury sporting accessories, including a Prada x adidas Bowling Bag.
This time, the two labels are paying homage to their sporting backgrounds. Originally, the Luna Rossa shoe was worn by the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli team during their victory in the Prada Cup. The Prada Cup is the main inspiration by the newest Grey colourway of the P + A Luna Rossa, whilst the Black colourway is said to ‘pay homage to the storied histories of both brands with a subtle tonal make-up’. The silhouette as a whole goes back to the brands roots, revisiting the details and shaping of the America’s Cup boat shoe of 1997.
The latest silhouette features a PRIMEGREEN upper, which is a series of high-performance recycled materials. A perforated BOOST midsole and wrap around outsole provides extra comfort and freedom of movement, alongside the EVA ergonomic tongue. The shoe is finished with a hydrophobic E-TPU outer shell, which provides breathability, flexibility and a securely waterproof layer to cover the upper. Each pair is detailed with the adidas logo on the back of the shoe, alongside the classic Prada LR logo. Adding to the overall luxurious feel of the product, every pair also comes with a durable, water resistant shoe bag made with technical fabrics.
Both the Black and Grey colourways will be available on the Prada website and adidas app, retailing at £490, from Monday 19th July. They are also available at Luisaviaroma, which you can take a look at below.
