Moncler recently released a new silhouette, the Maya Jacket. A brand which was renowned for their outerwear in the eighties, the brand is revisiting its roots with this release.

As the Moncler label begun their transition from the slopes to fashion week around the eighties, sportswear began to emerge in mainstream fashion trends, through different brands and fashion houses. After Moncler proved so successful in its specialised winter outerwear, they began to branch out into new territory. Throughout the late eighties, the brand paired up with Chantal Thomas – a highly respected and well known stylist within the industry at this time. Together, the partners developed garments, thinking less practical and more fashionable. The transformation saw the removal of classic fastenings, replacing them with fur trims, satin, and a mix of fabric including versatile reversible styles.

The evolution of the Moncler brand became popular on the high-street, first emerging from Milan and then beyond. Younger people were seen to be sporting the jackets in bold, adventurous colours – it is said the mid 80’s saw Moncler sales hit around 40,000 pieces across the world, around 75% of them to be sold in Milan.

Revisiting the decade, Moncler have recreated the popular eighties silhouettes in the form of the new Maya jacket. With reference to their vintage archives, the Maya jacket still holds the most iconic features and shape.

Overall, the jacket silhouette is sharp with large quilts for a chunkier look, the length is slightly shorter, which is really on trend at the moment and flattering for all sizes. The Maya jacket is filled with the classic Moncler Down in a nylon laque finish. Its design features a handy snap off, detachable hood, with die-cast zipper closures on the front, and die-cast zipper pockets for extra security. There’s a snap flap pocket on the left sleeve for ease of use, alongside the coil zipper pocket on the interior – perfect for keeping more valuable items safe. There is an elastic drawcord on the hem of the jacket, also the hood, which is great to adjust the fit to your liking. The Maya jacket is finished with the classic Moncler felt logo detailing.

The Moncler Maya Jacket comes in three unique colours – a bold Mauve Pink, Black and Dark Blue. It’s available to buy on the Moncler site, retailing at £950 – a true investment, statement piece. Don’t forget to check out other articles on our ‘Release and Blogs’ page to get the latest in menswear.
