Tottenham Hotspur and Formula 1 have agreed on a 15-year strategic partnership that will include many initiatives and educational activities as well as the world’s first in-stadium electric karting track below the stadium of the North London club.Â
The first-of-its-kind electric karting track is scheduled to open later this year and will almost definitely attract a wider audience to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The new partnership will also see the introduction of a new driver academy programme to identify the next wave of F1 drivers while also building awareness and enhancing diversity in the motorsport industry.
Other initiatives that come with the new partnership include educational activities for schools to engage youthful individuals in the sport and introducing them to potential careers in engineering and software development.Â
Apprenticeships and career opportunities will also be made available to the local youth who show an interest in motorsport.Â
Furthermore, another aspect of the partnership includes sustainability initiatives as F1 plans to fulfil its commitment to becoming net zero carbon by 2030, while Spurs set their targets on halving its greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and then becoming net zero by 2040.
Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of F1, explained to Sky Sports: “The karting experience will be a destination and place that families, friends, and aspiring drivers from all over the world will want to visit and enjoy, engaging new audiences and offering an accessible entry point to the world of motorsport.”
Daniel Levy, chairman of Tottenham added: “Since building this stadium our ambition has always been to see how far we can push the boundaries in delivering world-class experiences that will attract people from around the world all year round.
“We have been able to bring the biggest names in sport and entertainment to London N17. We are extremely excited about what this long-term partnership with F1 will bring for our global, national, and local communities.”
