Pharrell Pays Homage To The Basketball Sport in new adidas Originals Collection

By Rachel Tooley | April 4, 2020

The adidas Originals x Pharrell Williams collaboration was first launched back in 2014. The music sensation has been pushing his creative boundaries since the early 90’s, and this collaboration is no exception. Emphasising Pharrell’s initial vision to connect people through love, passion, energy and colour, each of Williams’ collections have been a celebration of diversity within the modern community. From working on his collaborations with labels including Billionaire Boys Club and A Bathing Ape, to giving the adidas NMD silhouette a new look of his own, you could say Pharrell really has done it all.

“What I’m trying to do is use my platform for people to tell their stories. The purpose of this collaboration is to provide that opportunity.” – Pharrell Williams for adidas Originals

Launching at the beginning of next week, Pharrell pays homage to one of America’s most popular sports… basketball. Dedicated to the elements of sportsmanship that make basketball so enjoyable and unifying for many, this collection embraces the spirit and innovation of the sport in hand. However, this collection doesn’t just focus on the sport itself or the kit that goes with it. The new Pharrell x adidas Originals basketball collection embraces the whole lifestyle too. With a selection of apparel and footwear designed for both on court and off court action, these classic adidas silhouettes are versatile and perfect for all round wear.

The apparel which features in this collection consists of a unique, vivid all over print with an intricate tie dye detail. The shades of lime green, yellow, pink, aqua blue and indigo complement each other well and would look great with a huge variety of garments and colours depending on your personal style. The bright, summery designs are a refreshing take on what could be an easily basic number of silhouettes.

First up is the ‘Pharrell Williams BB Hoodie’ which will be available for £129.95. The cosy hoodie is made from 100% cotton French Terry, and features signature details like a kangaroo pocket, drawstring hood and ribbed cuffs and hem. For the warmer weather, the ‘Pharrell Williams BB T-shirt’ will also be available with the same all over print as the hoodie. This lightweight option features a ribbed crewneck and 100% cotton single jersey material for maximum comfort and stretch. The t-shirt featured in this collection will retail at £64.95. Matching shorts will also be available if you want to achieve the full look. The ‘Pharrell Williams BB Shorts’ are also made of 100% cotton French Terry, and feature a drawstring cord on the waistband, side welt pockets and a back pocket for added practicality. The shorts will be available on the Adidas website for £84.95.

Alongside the line of apparel, Pharrell is also releasing a collection of footwear which includes a brand-new basketball shoe silhouette – The ‘Pharrell Williams 0 To 60 shoe’. This 90’s inspired silhouette features a zip and lace closure, stretch woven upper with leather detailing, a boost midsole for the best performance enhancement and a Pharrell Williams reflexology sockliner inside. This new basketball silhouette will be available at a retail price of £169.95.

The ‘Crazy BYW 2.0 Pharrell Williams shoe’ has a regular fit with a traditional lace closure. The boost midsole provides extra cushioning and protection underfoot for powerful, comfortable movement. The sculpted rubber outsole gives the shoe a new, innovative dynamic, which is emphasized with layering of bold colours and mesh/technical fabrics. The ‘Crazy BYW 2.0 Pharrell Williams shoe’ is due to retail for £159.95.

Alongside the two innovative designs, Williams’ goes back to basics with his redesigns of classic adidas Original silhouettes. These silhouettes include adidas Originals Stan Smiths, Campus shoes, Continental 80’s shoes, Nizza Hi RF shoes and SC Premiere shoes.

The drop date for the new collection is Monday 6th April at 9am. The collection will be available from Adidas.com and selected online retailers.
