Well-established, Japanese designer Nigo, the streetwear genius who founded A BATHING APE (BAPE), Human Made and who’s currently the artistic director for the French fashion label Kenzo, has reportedly signed his very first partnership with Nike.

The reported deal between Nigo and Nike potentially signals a change for the designers preferred footwear collaboration as Nigo and his list of brands have been working in collaboration with Adidas for over 20 years.

It was only last week when images surfaced of the collaborative BAPE x Adidas Forums, decorated in classic BAPE Camo and scheduled to launch as part of a series to celebrate 30 years since Nigo founded BAPE.

Prior to that, Adidas recently launched the BAPE x Adidas Campus 80s trainers in a more subtle design and in celebration of 20 years since the duo first linked up.

The Japanese streetwear designer has never previously worked with Nike on a product before and his extensive collaborations with Adidas might make this news slightly surprising to some.

Nigo, who took control of Adidas’ Japan national football team kits for the 2022 World Cup, is a legendary streetwear designer who’s collaborations and partnerships are unlikely to know any limits, despite the long-term rivalry between the 3-Stripes and Swoosh giants.

While more details regarding Nigo’s deal with Nike are unknown, it’s been reported that they’re in the early stages of the collaboration and any products won’t be released until 2024 at the earliest.
