Sheffield United’s financial issues have been given a positive boost as expected new owner of the club and Nigerian billionaire – Dozy Mmobuosi has provided an eight-figure cash injection to help the club avoid administration.

Mmobuosi made his millions in technology as he co-founded Tingo Mobile, who have about 12 million customers across Nigeria alone. Mmobuosi is expected to complete a £90 million takeover of Sheffiend United from current club owner – Prince Abdullah in the approaching weeks.

While Sheffield United sit in second-place in the Championship and strive for promotion back to the Premier League, Mmobuosi has committed to funding the club before he’s even taken over.

Sheffield United’s financial situation has been an issue for the club all season. The worst-case scenario is the South Yorkshire club goes into administration, which would come with a 12-point deduction.

Mmobuosi’s cash injection is thought to be partly used on keeping up with payments to previous transfers, such as Sander Berge from Genk and Rhian Brewster from Liverpool.

It’s also understood that the Nigerian billionaire instructed the club to keep hold of both Sander Berge and Ilima Ndiaye on deadline day as both drew interest from top-flight clubs.

Sitting in second-place, Sheffield United are looking for no distractions this season as they’re currently 5 points away from league leaders Burnley and 12 points clear of third-place Middlesbrough.

Mmobuosi’s takeover of at Bramall Lane is officially waiting on an EFL approval.
