Last week on 20th April, the multi-platinum selling artist Wiz Khalifa released his newest album ‘The Saga of Wiz Khalifa’. The album has just 7 tracks but incredible features from the likes of Quavo and Tyga to name a few. It seems that the release date was planned as Wiz is known to celebrate 4/20 and releasing new music is his way to commemorate the ‘holiday’.
This month marked the 10-year anniversary of Wiz Khalifa’s mixtape ‘Kush and Orange Juice’, which arguably was his most notorious work. The mixtape has been a huge influence for the melodic hip-hop that we hear today. Upon release, the mixtape was trending on Google and Twitter within the hour and its clear to see the huge impact it has had as people still listen to it a decade later. A year before the release Wiz Khalifa parted ways with his record label Warner Bros as he wanted to be in control of his ‘next moves’. It clearly paid off as ‘Kush and Orange Juice’ went down in history and he quickly signed to Atlantic Records.
The last album that Wiz KhIalifa released ‘2009’ was a collaborative album with fellow American rapper Curren$y. The 2 rappers vibe well with each other as they have collaborated in the past, many fans were happy to see them reunite and listen to this new album as it has a real sense of nostalgia. After the success of ‘2009’, people were left wondering when Wiz will release a solo project and if it would be as good as what has come before.
There are many features on ‘The Saga of Wiz Khalifa’ and Wiz has chosen popular hip-hop artists such as Megan Thee Stallion, Logic and Ty Dolla $ign. Yet the most popular song has been with Tyga. ‘Contact’ came out last month and already has over 5 million views on YouTube. They rap about their lavish lifestyles and the video sees them in hot air balloons, surrounded by models. Watch it here –Â
