Ye and Demna, previously known by their full names Kanye West and Demna Gvasalia, are partnering up for a project at Gap. Ye posted an image on Instagram last week, showing a contract between Gap, Yeezy and Balenciaga. The line, officially titled Yeezy Gap Engineered by Balenciaga is set for a June release and will be sold via Gap. From what Ye and Demnda have said, it seems the collection will be at Gap prices. Demna told Vogue: “This is a very different challenge. I’ve always appreciated the utilitarianism and the accessibility of Gap. I share some of the same sensibilities in my creative language. This project allowed me to join forces [with Ye] to create utilitarian fashion for all.”
It comes as no surprise that YEEZY GAP and Balenciaga are joining forces on a ‘creative exploration’ as the relationship between Ye and Demna has been strong for a few years. We have seen Demna dress Ye in his all-black Balenciaga designs since the start of DONDA, including dressing Ye’s ex wife Kim Kardashian at the Met Gala.
In a press release YEEZY GAP explained: “This first of its kind launch sees ye’s peerless vision bring together the most influential designer of his generation, Demna, with [the] iconic American brand, gap. YEEZY GAP engineered by Balenciaga continues ‘Ye’s commitment to bringing creativity to the forefront and delivering his vision of utilitarian design for all.”
This is the first of what we presume will be many great collaborations this year so make sure to keep checking The Hoxton Trend for all the latest fashion news.
