The highly anticipated collaboration between arguably the most famous rapper in the world right now and the creative director of Balenciaga, Kanye West (Ye) and Demna Gyaslia have come together once again for a project called “Yeezy Gap Engineered By Balenciaga.”
Ye’s aesthetic of baggy clothes and shiny fabrics can be seen in the collection that features many hoodies, short and long sleeve t-shirts, trousers, and a denim jacket – all available in unisex.
Kanye signed a ten year deal with Gap in 2020 and much of the collaboration is still anticipated as only a couple of items have been released so far.
When the first items dropped last summer, the $200 Round Jacket crashed Gap’s website and sold out within minutes. The jacket is currently reselling for over $7000. With Balenciaga being sold at a much cheaper rate, it’s hard to imagine this wont be a sell out collection either.Â
Demna speaks of Ye to Vogue the way we’d like every collaborating designer to speak of each other: “There are very few people that I know, especially of Ye’s caliber, who really understand my work so well.”
Denmar continues: “He makes me come out of my comfort zone and be a better designer. There’s no ego when we collaborate, just a mutual drive to evolve and do something great and new.”
This is not the first time the two have worked together as Demna creative directed the stage sets and live streams for Ye’s recent Donda 2 listening events in Chicago and Atlanta, plus he also designed the t-shirts and merchandise for the events.
The first Yeezy Gap Engineered By Balenciaga is available to preorder and will be shipped around July 1st by Farfetch.
