Introducing RHUDE, A Visual Commentary On LA Style and Culture

RHUDE which is a LA based fashion label was founded in 2015 by menswear designer Rhuigi Villasenor. And once Kendrick Lamar and Frank Ocean were seen wearing the iconic paisley bandana T-Shirt RHUDE was noticed by fashion lovers worldwide.

Rhuigi Villasenor grew up in the Philippines and travelled around Hong Kong, Saudi Arabi and Thailand. Surrounded by so much culture it is clear to see the influences in his designs. Each collection he designs tells a story and presents his personal life as he travelled as well as reflecting upon modern socioeconomics. Rhuigi Villasenor had no formal training in fashion design and instead credits his skill to growing up with a Mother who was a tailor and therefore he understands garment construction.

Now, Rhude chronicles this evolution of man from adolescence to maturity.

RHUDE is a cool LA streetwear brand, so expect new innovate takes on classic pieces. Often combining American iconography with nostalgic references, RHUDE is a visual commentary on Los Angeles culture. By channelling the rock ‘n’ roll spirit of California, RHUDE presents an effortless streetwear aesthetic. You can expect graphic T-Shirts, lounge pants, distressed details and unexpected prints, all which add a hint of rebellion to your wardrobe.

Having to create a collection during a pandemic has proved to be quite difficult for a lot of designers. However, Rhuigi Villasenor has explained the excitement of being able to reimagine pieces of clothing that men are not wearing as much, such as the suit. He said, “If the world isn’t playing by any ordinary set of rules, why should our clothes?”. As opposed to the usual catwalk show, this year to showcase RHUDE’s newest collection Villasenor created a campaign video showing the models in a home to reflect the current situation surrounding lockdown and WFH.

This west coast brand is definitely one to watch, and if you want to see our top 5 pieces that you can get your hands on right now, then keep scrolling.
