Since November, rumours of a linkup between fashion giants Balenciaga and Supreme began circulating with reports claiming the collaboration was expected to launch for Spring 2023. However, online images have now surfaced of the collaboration which has apparently been “cancelled.”Â
Courtesy of @dondasplace on Instagram, we’ve gotten a look at the apparent cancelled Supreme x Balenciaga SS23 collaboration. The expansive selection showcases 10 looks that amplifies Supreme’s established designs, mixed with Demna’s bold Balenciaga outlook.Â
The standout piece for me has to be the black, oversized box logo hoodie that can be seen in the main image above. It’s a minimalistic design seems to effectively expresses Balenciaga‘s new brand direction.
At the beginning of March, during Paris Fashion Week, Balenciaga showcased Its first show since the infamous controversial ad scandal. With a minimalistic set and carpet, no celebrities taking the runway and the show’s location kept a secret until the day before to minimalise attention – the event seemed to express a new direction for Balenciaga.
One thing that many noticed during Balenciaga’s SS23 show, was a red box Balenciaga logo placed upon a ripped T-shirt and showing a striking resemblance to the Supreme box logo.Â
Many believed this was in reference to the labels upcoming collaboration with Supreme, but Demna put these rumours to bed and confirmed it was another spoof design for their vault, just like the labels mock “Be Different” Apple T-shirts.Â
Fast forward a month, the apparent cancelled Balenciaga x Supreme collab has come only months after the French luxury house’s ad scandal – the scandal being the only reason I can think of for the collab to be canceled. Â
The pictures have so far received a variety of responses online, with many admitting there’s definitely some nice pieces included but the price would of most likely been extortionate.Â
This would of been Supreme‘s most recent luxury fashion collab since the labels Louis Vuitton linkup in 2020. While every online report claims the Balenciaga x Supreme collab is apparently cancelled, it’s worth remembering that this is only speculation and that anything can happen.
