Future Drops Latest Accredited Gold Album “High Off Life”

By Michael Barbara | May 20, 2020

Released on the 15th May 2020, Future’s latest album “High Off Life” was accredited as gold prior to its release due to the success of his single “Life Is Good”. Produced alongside Drake, it debuted at number 2 and become the first single to ever spend its first eight weeks in this position making this single Future’s highest charting song to date. Other popular singles off this album include “Solitaries” featuring Travis Scott which reached 1 million views on YouTube the day of its release and “All Bad” featuring Lil Uzi Vert following closely at 900.000 views.

This album marks the monumental rapper’s 37th project underpinning his endless creative genius against his peers such as Drake which sits at 17 projects, J Cole at 14 and Kendrick Lamar at 11. The 21 single star studded tracklist of the album recruits the musical talents of Meek Mill, Travis Scott, Lil Uzi Vert, Lil Baby, Da Baby, Drake and more, showing that Future is not planning on slowing down anytime soon.

Nayvadius DeMun Wilburn, better known by his stage name Future, was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia a state known for its signature trap scene. He first appeared on the scene as part of a collective called the ‘Dungeon Family’ where he got nicknamed ‘The Future’. After signing to A1 Recordings a label under fellow Atlanta rapper Rocko, The Futures’ hard working ethos and drive would eventually fuel his career to mammoth successes.

In 2010 he released a series of mixtape which were greeted with critical appraise, he collaborated with Gucci Mane on the album “Free Bricks” but it wasn’t until the infamous Atlanta strip club ‘Magic City’ which is credited for launching the careers of several rappers, played his music and put his name on the map.

In September 2011 he went on to sign a major deal with Epic Records under which he released his debut album “Pluto” on April 17th 2012. The album included the single “Magic” featuring T.I. which became Futures first song to enter the Billboard hot 100 charts. His second studio album “Honest” dropped in April 2014, it went on to receive positive critical acclaim debuting at number 2 on the Billboard hot 100 charts and became certified gold after selling over 53,000 copies in its first week. In 2015 the rapper released a collaborative mixtape with Drake which debuted at number 1 on Billboard 200, Billboard R&B charts and Billboard Hot Rap Songs making him the second rapper in 11 years able to score two number one albums in a year, following Jay Z back in 2004.

On Valentines day 2017, Future announced on his Instagram the release of his fifth self titled studio album due to hit later that month, exactly a week following this announcement he would release his sixth album titled Hndrxx. Both of the albums went to number one consecutively, making Future the first ever artist to debut two albums at number one at the same time on the Billboard 200 and Canadian Albums Chart.

Futures Goliath successes can be traced back to his unique musical style which famously incorporates auto tune. Pitchfork media wrote that he “miraculously shows that it’s still possible for Auto-Tune to be an interesting artistic tool”, and that he “finds a multitude of ways for the software to accentuate and color emotion”
