Paris based brand A.P.C once again joined forces with the infamous workwear brand Carhartt W.I.P. Serving another capsule of innovative and versatile looks, the brands are pushing the boundaries between both brand aesthetics to create their own minimally curated workwear collection – the pinnacle of contemporary style. The collaborative capsule collection was born after the relationship between A.P.C and Carhartt WIP developed over their four former collections, debuted between 2011 and 2013. The French ‘ready to wear’ brand was first founded in 1987 by Jean Touitou, which is now renowned for its French classic influences. A.P.C sits at the upper end of the market, creating premium basics which are classy and sophisticated but with a cooler edge. At the other side of the spectrum is Carhartt WIP, which is growing ever popular for its practical and functional designs, now being adopted by the streetwear trend. Carhartt WIP now resonates with a huge audience, as they’ve developed and adapted their classic workwear silhouettes into rugged and durable contemporary fashion. The collaborative forces from both brands come together to birth a collection of juxtaposing designs, merging the Parisian delicacy with an American utility style.Â
Within their most recent collection, the Parisian based brand have reinterpreted classic Carhartt WIP pieces into Spring/Summer 2020 essentials. Alongside the general menswear capsule, the brand have created a range of womenswear pieces, also complemented by a unisex range of accessories which includes bags, totes, hats and wallets. The overall collection features a wide range of garments including organic cotton t-shirts, hoodies, sweatshirts, shorts and jeans. Alongside ranges outerwear including the notorious Michigan Chore Coat which has been redesigned through the A.P.C lens, using sleeker style cotton in replacement of its usual rougher, rugged feeling canvas base. The brands have collaborated using a cooler looking palette to bring us into the warmer months, mainly consisting of blue, khaki green and grey.Â
This weeks ‘February Focus’ product is the A.P.C x Carhartt WIP Veste Talk Jacket, which is available now at our selected retailer The Hip Store. This jacket emphasizes the fusion of workwear functionals and voguish aesthetics at their best. The blue denim fabric adds a 90’s flare to this military inspired silhouette. White mesh lining features on the interior of this piece for extra breathability under what would otherwise be a heavy textile (not one ideal for the summer sweats, right?). Three open pockets sit on the front of the jacket, with two placed by the sides and one sitting on the chest which is finished with a woven co-branded badge – a redesign of the classic Carhartt ‘C’ square merged with the A.P.C logo. Contrast stitching is used to piece together every element of this jacket, with tan coloured thread to create a more vintage aesthetic. Unique details are also created with a visible centre seam on the back of the jacket and shoulder pleats which add a raw edge to this otherwise tidy garment. Silver hardware finishes the jacket off – branded buttons feature down the front centre of the jacket for closure, and also on the plackets of the cuffs, a signature Carhartt design detail.
