Six months ago, Dior announced a collaboration with Japanese brand sacai. Sacai is most known for their collabs with Nike releasing small collections as well as the popular sacai x Nike LDWaffle trainers.
This collection with Dior however, features 57 pieces with a mixture of ready-to-wear, bags and accessories. The colour palette is predominantly black, white and midnight blue, ‘evoking a mid-century fashion photograph back to life’ as Kim Jones says.
Some of the standout details include floral Dior designs on traditional sacai fabrics. As well as Japanese denim being used to recreate the look of Japanese workwear. A noticeable detail is the special logo which combines sacai’s name into Dior’s. They have taken the letter ‘i’ that appears in both labels and have placed ‘sacai’ vertically on the i of Dior.
Dior describes this collaboration as a “creative conversation between two designers, two heritages and two cultures”. Elements of both brands are very clear to see in this capsule collection. It combines the DNA of both brands, showcasing Kim Jones’ signature sporty take on tailoring and Chitose Abe’s love of multiple fabrics.
