Premier league team Arsenal have teamed up with adidas Originals to create a reimagined ‘Bruised Banana’ range, inspired by the teams’ retro kits.

The ‘Bruised Banana’ shirt was originally worn by players between 1991 and 1993, as part of the Arsenal away kit. The shirt quickly became one of the most recognizable pieces of kit in world football, worn by legendary players including Anders Limpar, Ian Wright and David Rocastle; the original shirt has been coveted by fans for many years. Many of the original second hand ‘Bruised Banana’ shirts now sell online for up to £450. 

Just yesterday, the brand gave fans a new opportunity to get their hands on one of these iconic shirts amongst other nostalgic pieces featured within their updated ‘Bruised Banana’ collection. The shirts come complete with the original trefoil logo and Arsenal badge, with a classic v-neck, short sleeve silhouette. Alongside the shirt, the collection also features a variety of other pieces which include the ‘Icon Long Sleeve Top’ with a ribbed polo collar and cuffs, and an Arsenal embroidered crest, the ‘Arsenal Icon Jacket’ comes in navy and gold, which is made from recycled materials to avoid waste. The collection pays homage to 90’s football fashion, celebrating an unforgettable age for the Arsenal team. 

According to an official release from the football club itself, Ian Wright said “It’s great to see adidas and Arsenal bringing back some of the iconic designs which were such a big part of my career. The fans loved that shirt and I’m sure it’s something they would have been hoping for once the partnership was announced. It made sense for the current away shirt to be inspired by the bruised banana jersey and likewise to bring back the original as a one off.”
