American based brand, 424, have recently teamed up with adidas Originals to produce their latest SS20 capsule collection. The collection pays tribute to rap dons Run DMC, whilst fusing together a sports-luxe aesthetic to create a laid back luxury style.

The 424 brand pride themselves in using cutting edge designs to create new and innovative pieces, whilst taking on an unusual approach where old-age conventionality meets the contemporary luxury menswear. 424 initially formed secondary to Guillermo Andrade’s Fairfax boutique FourTwoFour. The inspiration for the brand comes from hotspot cities including New York and Paris, whilst they base themselves in the premier streetwear district of Los Angeles. As the 424 label has developed, it has become on of the must-have brand for Instagram influencers across the globe.

The distinctive red armband – a signature detail for the label – is one to look out for within the ever-growing social media platform, as it grows more iconic within the Instagram streetwear scene. Alongside its more personal design references, such as Guillermo Andrade’s background in playing football, the 424 trademark armband was originally designed to make a stand against the abuse of authority and gross negligence of police brutality that can often be seen in America. This is one of the reasons the brand is so popular, and so relevant today – it is unique and meaningful and carefully considers the brand core values in everything they do.

The new 424 x adidas Originals collaboration for Spring/Summer 2020 consists of a full apparel collection, alongside three redesigned sneaker silhouettes. Taking influence from American rap moguls Run DMC, the collection heavily consists of a red and black colour palette inspired by the group. Within the collection, a mix of sports-luxe and streetwear is apparent, with loose silhouettes designed with a formal twist. A highlight piece within the collection is the black, oversized scarf which is detailed with the classic adidas stripe in a siren red. The main body of the collection features a matching black blazer and grey checked formal trousers which take a more sporty approach, finished with the trademark stripes travelling down the outer leg in the same red shade. On the more casual side, the collection features men’s tracksuits and sweats which are emblazoned with a vibrant 424 logo and the Adidas crest, and sports caps which are ideal for the sunnier weather.

Three trainer silhouettes from the adidas Originals collection also feature within the new capsule. The adidas Originals Superstar, SC Premiere and Pro Model sneakers all get a bold re-design for this collaboration. The SC Premiere shoe features a muted white upper which contrasts against the vivid red 424 tab placed on the tongue, finished with subtle 424 imprinted on the midsole and a black Adidas crest on the heel. The chunky Pro Model silhouettes embrace a more simple take, in monochromatic black and white colourways, with a contrasting three stripe detail on both the medial and lateral side of the upper. The adidas Originals Superstar gets a subtle update, with a classic white leather upper, and an off-white rubberized midsole and toe cap. The tongue is detailed with bright red suede, which is finished with black 424 branding and off-white leather on the heel.

The drop date for the 424 x adidas Originals collection is 8th May. The collection will be available from the Adidas website, which you can visit by clicking here.
