Adidas Get Ready To Drop New Rivalry Low ‘White/Red’

By Rachel Tooley | April 28, 2020

The Adidas ‘Rivalry High’ silhouette was first released as a basketball shoe in 1986. The release was launched just one year after the iconic Nike Air Jordan 1 silhouette made its debut in the evolving market of basketball and sporting footwear – the Air Jordan 1 went on to become one of the most coveted sneakers in both sports and fashion through the new concept of sneaker culture, stepping up the competition between sporting brands to create innovative yet voguish designs. During the same era, the two brands began to contest to create some of the most specialised, yet stylish, basketball footwear silhouettes in the industry. The ‘Rivalry High’ sneakers became iconic upon the hardwood, worn by NBA legends including Patrick Ewing of the New York Knicks team. Following the success of the high-top silhouette, Adidas soon launched a more casual, low-top version, which is when the ‘Rivalry Low’ silhouette was born.

Last year saw the re-release of the silhouette in a new, slightly more vibrant colourway. The 2019 edition of the ‘Rivalry Low’ sneaker became part of the ‘Home Of The Classics’ capsule range, which also featured some of Adidas’ signature silhouettes including the Continental 90, the Stan Smith, the SC Premiere shoe and the Nizza Hi RF high-top shoe. For this collection, the ‘Rivalry Low’ was re-designed in a clean, slightly patriotic looking white, red and blue colourway. Luxurious embellishments were added with the use of coloured pony hair on the iconic three stripe design, making them a chic, sophisticated addition to anyones sneaker collection.

Once again, Adidas are bringing the classic silhouette back for another year. This time, the Adidas ‘Rivalry Low’ will feature a minimal looking palette of white and off white, which is complimented by accents of siren red. The upper is turned away from the usual leather design and features an interesting mixture of canvas and suede. Textured panels are layered in different tones, with the use of premium leathers and synthetics to create a more diverse looking shoe. Classic Adidas branding sits upon the lateral side of the midsole, alongside branding on the tongue which challenges a more retro aesthetic, travelling back to the shoes roots. The name of the silhouette also sits just under the laces, in a traditional serif font, the intricate details on the shoe make it more unique, possibly even delicate looking, compared to a lot of the regular pairs released by the brand over the past few months – it’s a product that makes us appreciate the true attention to detail which this well-loved brand propose to each of their designs. A red leather patch sits on the top of the toe box, layered on top of a beige suede panel which encloses around the front end of the foot, creating an interesting contrast between neutral and primary colours. The trainer is neatly finished with slick white laces and white leather panelling surrounding the matching eyelets.

These shoes are a perfect addition to your summer wardrobe, a contemporary classic which is stylish and extremely versatile, they are easily adaptable to your personal style. If you’re looking for a little inspiration, why not try a simple combination of oversized blue jeans and a white t-shirt?

The drop date for the Adidas ‘Rivalry Low’ In White/Red is 1st May, available at selected retailers and at Adidas.com, retailing at just £75.
